LCR Honda rider Cal Crutchlow is looking for another memorable weekend at Silverstone as he prepares for his home Grand Prix at the Northamptonshire circuit. Last year Crutchlow thrilled his adoring home fans as he became the first Briton since Barry Sheene to qualify on pole position in the premier class, before taking second behind Maverick Vinales in a memorable race.

At this year’s renewal Crutchlow will be sporting the iconic Castrol design and colours on his fairing which is sure to go down well with the local crowd. Following his heroics 12 months ago, the 31-year-old is confident of being competitive once again and, despite conceding the British weather can always make the weekend difficult to predict, is aiming to produce another big result.

#35 Cal Crutchlow

“It’s nice to be back on the Castrol bike again, obviously last year we had it in Malaysia and San Marino, this time in Silverstone it’s great as they’re based over here and it’s good to be able to showcase the old retro colours.

“We’ll do our best as always. This race is always a bit of a lottery, but hopefully we’ll be able to win the lottery this weekend. That doesn’t just mean winning the race, but being competitive and having a good result and I think there’s no reason why we can’t achieve that. I’ve done it here before, on a Honda last year, and hopefully we can do so again.

“Last year I thought we were quite clever over the weekend, we worked very, very well as a team and we’ll try and do that again. What is true though is that the settings of this year’s bike are nothing like those from last year just because the engine configuration and balance of the bike is a bit different, so we need to find the best setting in FP1 and FP2 and work from there.”
