On the hunt for his first MotoGP World Title, Andrea Dovizioso has arrived in Malaysia for the semi final of the 2017 season. It is a highly demanding track with waves of heat, rain and humidity all destined to test each rider during the weekend. Andrea Dovizioso composed as we know him has continued to remain focused on his goals and reminds us that anything is possible and that you have to take the initial steps to build the perfect foundations for a race winning weekend. After his struggles in Phillip Island, Dovizioso is focused more than ever on working hard to start strong from Fridays FP1 “We are focused on our speed, we have to be first, we have to be the fastest to try and gain the points and if some riders can be in the middle of us it is the best things but first we need to work on our speed, it will be really tough, especially with Marquez. Normally he is fast in every condition”

“It will be really tough, especially with Marquez”

Day 1 was a success with Dovizioso finishing on top, it was a positive step forward “It was a better day. Really happy about the lap time I did this morning. It was quite fast but it was strange there was a lot of rubber on the ground, it wasn’t normal. But anyway it was a good feeling from the beginning. Especially in the wet, we can confirm good things from last year are even better so, really happy about that”

“For sure, in the wet we have some advantage”

Keeping in mind they need more than just natural ability to win this championship, Ducati continued to explore different ideas to figure out a way to be fastest. They decided to do a comparison with and without fairings to see if the difference had a noticeable impact “I did that comparison because it was the perfect moment, the perfect practice because we didn’t have to make a lap time to be in the top 10. Fortunately the condition was quite similar from the beginning to the end and it was the first time i’ve done a comparison in the same moment. It was important but it was very small, positive and negative. I think we will not use the fairing in the wet”

It’s a never ending strategy and set up battle to formulate the perfect package to win a race weekend, let alone a World Championship Title. Dovizioso has been one of the most composed and focused riders of the season and no doubt will continue this frame of mind. Race day is close, we look forward to seeing how Ducati work and fight to keep the championship alive!
