He finished Friday practice two in second position and is really looking forward to the Grand Prix this weekend. Lorenzo wants to continue using the practice sessions to try new things and also improve the bike and pace. Jorge Lorenzo: “My day was essentially good with second place and with the hard tyre, I was third but when I am in the back, I just do not focus on the result. Today, I arrived second. We still need to determine which is faster. We start not in a bad way but I do not know where we are.” Jorge Lorenzo’s thoughts on the chicane: “Quite bad because I am one who believes that who is not here, we make right in terms of safety to create this on the track. Firstly, for the hard braking where you can make a mistake and also in the chicane you can end up in the middle of the circuit and someone can go over you. This worries me a little bit but I do not think they are going to change anything. We just hope that nothing happens.” When there is hard braking especially at this circuit, you can make a mistake. Jorge Lorenzo: “When you make a mistake, it is almost impossible to avoid the collision. Lorenzo’s opinions are also in line with Maverick Vinales and Andrea Dovizioso. Yesterday Jorge spoke about the test and how Marc Marquez was making a gain regarding lap times. It was clear that Lorenzo was fast in the controversial chicane. Jorge Lorenzo: “Well I think I lost more in the other sectors compared to the test and made up in the last. I don’t know. I ride well in the last sector today (smiles)”. The feeling and body language of Lorenzo was great to see because it means that Ducati are progressing with the Spanish rider and he outperformed his teammate in FP2 today. Jorge Lorenzo: “The tyres are more or less the same. The rear is a little bit harder on the right side. We tried the medium like in the test and the new hardest one. I did not think so much difference. The dropping is similar and there is still a lot of spinning.” During the Montmelo test, Lorenzo tested things that worked and this improved lap times and performance. Jorge Lorenzo: “We have quite good pace. We need to improve tomorrow. It is not bad though”. The Ducati team are working around the clock to see what settings work for Lorenzo and Dovizioso is also aiming to achieve a good result in the sessions even with some issues like the bumps on the circuit and low-level grip. It appeared that Dovi found it harder to ride today compared to Lorenzo. When Lorenzo was asked about his performance in practice compared to Mugello practice it was clear that here he is much faster! Jorge Lorenzo: “Yes. Yes! I am faster here in the classifications and the lap times but it is also true that for maybe one lap… to the lap times in the race there is going to be a big difference. To have a better control of the throttle and to conserve the tyres, the rear especially means that there will be more of an advantage in the last ten laps. So I do not know if our bike is good on that area. We need to understand this tomorrow”.
